Alexander Elizarov is a Dr.Sc. (Physics and Mathematics), Professor, a senior researcher of the N.I. Lobachevsky Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of Kazan University, a Head of the Directorate of educational programs of the Institute of the Information Society, a specialist in in mathematical modeling and IT (Moscow), a member of the American Mathematical Society (AMS), the Society of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics (GAMM) and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), an Editor-in-Chief of the international electronic mathematical journal “Lobatchevskii Journal of Mathematics”. He is the author of more than 178 publications.

The area of expertise is related to research in boundary problems with unknown boundaries, optimization, as well as with the geometric theory of complex variable functions and its applications in mechanics. In the 1977–1982s the Professor has been investigating the solvability of a series of mixed inverse boundary problems within the theory of analytic functions that have applications in jet theory problems. Starting in 1984, he developed a mathematically grounded method for regularizing solutions of incorrect inverse boundary problems of aerohydrodynamics. Based on this method, together with his colleagues he implemented a method for constructing wing profiles with given characteristics. Alexander Elizarov has developed methods for solving variational inverse boundary problems connected with optimal design of aerodynamic shapes. The cycle of these studies is a new section in studying variational problems of gas dynamics.

Biography

1971–1976 - Kazan University, the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics (student).

1980 – Ph.D. (Physics and Mathematics).

1991 – Dr.Sc. (Physics and Mathematics).

1991–1993 – a Deputy Head for academic affairs of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics.

1997–2005 – a head of the project “Creating N.I. Lobachevsky Mathematical Center for holding all-Russian youth scientific schools and conferences”.

1995–2001 – an initiator of publishing “Trudy Matematicheskogo tsentra im. N.I. Lobachevskogo” (Proceedings of the Mathematical Center. N.I. Lobachevsky) (46 volumes has been published), a science editor of their considerable part.

2003 – a member of the Editorial Board of the Official server of the Republic of Tatarstan.

A Head of the federal project on creating the Volga region fragment of the data transmission network for science and education.

2009 – a manager of the Kazan branch of the RAS Interdeparmental Center for Supercomputing scientific project.

At present – a Presidium member of the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a Head of the Directorate of educational programs of the Institute of the Information Society (Moscow), a senior researcher of the N.I. Lobachevsky Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of Kazan University.
